Person centred is a form of therapy that seeks to facilitate a clients self-actualising tendency. “an inbuilt proclivity towards growth and fulfilment”, through acceptance (unconditional positive regard), the therapists congruence (genuineness) and an empathetic understanding of the clients world.
CBT is a Psycho-social intervention that aims to improve mental wellbeing. CBT focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions e.g. (thoughts, beliefs and attitudes) and behaviours improving emotional regulation and the development of personal coping strategies and solving current problems. It can help with mental health conditions such as anxiety, stress, depression and help with other issues using evidence -based techniques and strategies.
This form of therapy helps you understand how past, especially childhood, experiences shape our present lives and sense of self. By making the unconscious conscious, we can piece together missing parts of our life, leading to a more complete existence. Therapy explores how past relationship dynamics, often repeating in current relationships, impact us, using attachment theory to examine bonds and their effects on other relationships.
Gestalt is a form of psychotherapy which emphasizes personal responsibility, and focuses upon the individuals experiences in the present moment, the therapist and clients relationship, the environment and social contexts of a person’s life and self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation.
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a psychoanalytic theory and method of therapy wherein social transactions are analysed to determine the ego state of the communicator ( whether parent like, childlike or adult like) as a basis of understanding behaviour. In TA the communicator is taught to alter the ego state as a way to solve emotional problems.
